Police divers join search for missing Indian student Souvik Pal following Warehouse Project event
POLICE divers are now searching for missing student Souvik Pal, who has been missing since attending a New Year’s Eve event at the Warehouse Project, Trafford Quays.
Det Ch Insp Colin Larkin said police believe ‘absolutely’ that the 18-year-old international student is still alive, but the force is pursuing every line of enquiry in its bid to find him.
Police are conducting a search of the water system at Trafford Wharf as well as the surrounding areas.
Souvik came to Manchester from India in September to study at Manchester Metropolitan University and has been living in halls of residence in the city.
The product design student attended the event with six friends and flat mates, but the last time they saw him was between 10pm and 11pm.
It is believed he was asked to leave the night club at around 1.30am, however, it is not yet known why.
Det Ch Insp Larkin said: “A man that was ejected from the club at that time matches Souvik’s description, but we can’t be certain at this stage if it was Souvik.”
Police have received CCTV footage and are pursuing telephone and computer enquiries.
Souvik’s mobile phone is now switched off.
Det Ch Insp Larkin said: “We know he left the premises, but we don’t know where he is.
“I would urge anyone with information to come forward or call police on 101.”
He added: "His dad is trying to come over from India, his family and friends are very worried and they want him home safely.”
Souvik is described as Asian, 5ft 7in tall, of slim build and has a scar on the right side of his forehead.
He was last seen wearing a pale denim long sleeve shirt with a collar, grey chino trousers and navy blue leather boots.
He is said to speak with an Indian accent but speaks perfect English.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4223 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
