Dog rescued from Urmston pond by firefighters

THREE fire crews helped rescue a dog that had become trapped in an Urmston pond.

Firefighters were called Daresbury Avenue at around 3.25pm on December 28 following reports that people were endangering themselves by getting into the water to try rescue the spaniel unaided.

Crews from Stretford and Irlam attended the incident and were joined by a Water Incident Unit (WIU) from Eccles.

The WIU members entered the water wearing specialist dry suits and were able to pull ‘Benson’ from beneath a boardwalk built over the pond.

The crews were attending the incident for around half an hour.
