FIREFIGHTERS who have been taking part in this year’s Movember campaign said goodbye to their moustaches when a barber visited Altrincham Fire Station for a shave-off.

Altrincham Blue Watch has raised more than £140 for the cause which aims to raise awareness and funds for male cancers.

There were some apprehensive faces on Friday morning (November 30) when barber Tekin Dogruk, from Scissorhand in West Timperley, arrived at the station with his cut-throat razor and shaving kit. The hairdresser set up shop in the engine house of the fire station and shaved off the moustaches of Altrincham watch manager Andy Graham, from blue watch, and Stretford firefighter Jon Carter, from Red Watch.

Movember is a national craze which sees men grow moustaches throughout the month of November to raise awareness of cancers that solely affect men, and raise funds for cancer charities.

Watch manager Graham said: “We wanted to get involved in the event to show our support and raise money, and crews at stations across Trafford have been taking part. Getting Tekin down to the station was a nice touch which shows how the service gets involved with the community and local businesses and he’s become a friend of the watch now.”
