Hale Civic Society puts the spotlight on the railway
6:29pm Monday 22nd October 2012 in News
ALTRINCHAM Town Centre Partnership regeneration manager Peter Noble has praised a talk which put the spotlight on the railway in Hale.
At Hale Civic Society's meeting on October 17, railway historian Robert Miller spoke about Hale Station and the Cheshire Lines Committee.
Mr Noble said: "The evening was brilliant and very well attended. Robert was fascinating and many pictures enhanced his talk."
In October 1862 trains ran from Altrincham to Knutsford and the line was already pushing ahead with construction to Chester. This was to be completed by May 1863.
Celebrations next year will see a 40 foot by 16 foot railway layout on show operating in the function room of the Station Hotel, Altrincham. The display starts in February and ends at the beginning of May with the "150" celebration party.
