Joe’s painting is deserved art award winner

SIMPLY the best............a painting without a name has been named the winner of the Waterside 1st Open Art Exhibition Visitors' Choice Award.

More than 400 people voted for the piece, Untitled by Joe Simpson, who also walked away with a £200 cash prize courtesy of Trafford council.

The inaugural event, which ended in April, has been declared a resounding success by its organisers and project manager Julie Clarke told Messenger: "Untitled was an extremely popular choice with visitors and the almost photographic quality of the painting is technically exquisite, while the subject matter is sensitively handled, capturing an intriguing glimpse of a moment in time. The Waterside Arts Centre has been very impressed with the high standard of the work submitted and we hope this exhibition will encourage other artists to showcase in the future."

The overwhelming success of the show and the overwhelming response from talented artists across the north west has inspired the organisers to run the exhibition on a bi-annual basis.
