SALE Nomads’ Theatre Club are preparing to give their audiences a laugh when they present Joe Orton’s farce, What the Butler Saw.
It centres on Dr Prentice, to be played by Roberto Lavorini, who runs a psychiatric clinic where he plans to seduce a job applicant.
The pace gets faster when Mrs Prentice (Jenny Hollinshead) arrives unexpectedly and he has to cover his tracks.
Then the Government Inspector, Dr Rance, arrives. He roars out the line “I am a representative of Order, you are chaos.”
Chaos is a good word to use. For, apart from characters appearing in states of undress, the plot ends with bloodied bodies, straight jackets and guns. This really is a dark comedy.
