BETWEEN 1938 and the outbreak of war, almost 10,000 children, most of them Jewish, were sent by their parents from Germany to Britain.

Nine-year-old Eva ends up in Manchester. When Eva’s parents fail to escape Germany, the child changes her name and begins the denial of her roots. It is only when her own daughter discovers some old letters in the attic that Eva is forced to confront the truth about her past.

Five actresses play four mothers and daughters in this powerful story of the pain and passion of mother/daughter relationships.

Altrincham Little Theatre remembers that emotional and challenging time in its next production, Kindertransport by Diane Samuels.

The company is delighted to have Jacqueline Wheble to direct the play, a familiar face behind the scenes at the Oxford Road theatre.

Jacqueline said she has wanted to direct the piece for a long time but admits its proving a challenge in rehearsals.

She said: "This is a very complex play because of the different timescales involved, but it is a wonderful examination of a variety of mother-daughter relationships set over a period of 40 or 50 years”.
