One Direction got into the festive mood when they appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s talk show.

The chart-topping boyband – Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson – donned Christmas jumpers as they sang a stripped-down rendition of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town with the host on Monday’s night episode of The Tonight Show.

Harry, who also did some drumming and played the kazoo during the jam, wore a bright red jumper emblazoned with a Christmas tree and embellished with tinsel, with his hair kept back with a band, while Niall – who had the banana shaker – opted for a green, orange and yellow number.

Louis, wearing a red playing card jumper, played the tambourine, while bandmates Liam controlled the coconuts and Zayn took the triangle.

The group had backing from house band The Roots, who swapped their usual instruments for classroom instruments such as the xylophone, toy saxophone, hand clackers and a child’s drum.

Jimmy, who took the wood block and a keyboard, couldn’t resist boasting about his latest musical guests, posting a photo of himself with the Night Changes singers on Twitter and Instagram.

One Direction’s carolling session with Jimmy comes after they appeared in a skit alongside Amy Adams on Saturday Night Live, where they dressed as cheerleaders.
