“I used to be a presenter on the BBC Two motoring show, Top Gear,” reads Jeremy Clarkson’s Twitter bio.

Time was, Clarkson was Sunday night telly’s most familiar face as the presenter of the hit BBC driving show – but since the infamous “fracas” (when he attacked the show’s producer) that led to his departure, things have been a little quiet for the petrolhead.

Now, a mysterious picture of a sporty-looking yellow Corvette, parked on what looks to be a race track similar to Top Gear’s, with a film crew in the background, has set tongues wagging after Clarkson tweeted it.

Of course, it sent plenty of the show’s fans into meltdown about the prospect of Clarkson and his co-stars Richard Hammond and James May being back on the box comparing cars, but with no solid information about what, if anything, the photo means, as far as we know the presenter is still out of work.

His most recent public appearance was an annual stint as an auctioneer to raise money for Chipping Norton Lido, where he told the crowd: “Now some of you know there used to be a programme called Top Gear. It was on the BBC. But we could be back somewhere else. Or maybe even not somewhere else, who knows?”

So it’s possible that work has started on a completely different, but very familiar-looking, show. Or he could just have been filming for the upcoming live shows featuring himself, May and Hammond.

Just what has Clarkson been up to since his exit? He has been uncharacteristically quiet in the aftermath, but here’s what he’s chosen to share of his life post-Top Gear on Twitter…

Shortly after he was suspended by the BBC, things went from bad to worse for Clarkson.

He thanked fans in late March for their support, but wasn’t sure himself what the outcome would be.

A month later, Clarkson alerted his fans to an article he had written about the controversy.

He might be off his car show, but motors are still a big part of Clarkson’s life…

And he’s found time to keep his old rivalry with Piers Morgan going.

In fact, Clarkson is so secretive these days that he reckons even celeb hunters the Daily Mail can’t track him down:

Meanwhile, James May and Richard Hammond have been slightly more vocal about their new status as men of leisure – both have been tweeting and posting YouTube videos of how bored they are away from the studio and race track.

Here are some highlights from May:

And here’s what Hammond’s been up to:
