The 100 Club

The 100 Club

HOME TOWN: Altrincham.

LINE UP: Scott James (vocals and guitar), Alex Emery (bass) and Sam Atkinson (drums).

How and when did the band get together and how would you describe your musical style?

SJ: The band was formed earlier this year after a few songs I recorded and put on MySpace got some interest from a music website. They were putting a band night together for St George's Day and wanted to book us. I already knew Alex but didn't know any drummers in the area. We found Sam through the internet and after an hour playing together that was it! There's definitely a rock style to our music but also some punk and indie sounds too.

SA: We've been compared a lot to Queens of the Stoneage, but I've heard us be compared to everything from The Jam to Jimmy Eat World.

How would you describe your musical influences?

SJ: As far as the music side of things, people like The Strokes and She Wants Revenge, but with the melodies and lyrics I'm a massive fan of David Bowie and Ben Folds, as they're in my head quite a lot.

SA: I personally don't feel my drums are influenced by anyone in particular, I have my own style. However, for helping in writing song structure and such like, I'd say I'm influenced by bands like Reuben and Maximo Park.

AE: I have a wide selection of genres that influence me, from folk, rock and punk through to pop.

Where did the band name come from?

SJ: I found the name at the Palace Theatre in Manchester where I used to work. There are a few suites there which are used for VIPs or people who have donated money to the theatre.

DISCOGRAPHY

SJ: We're just creating a rough demo for promotion at the moment, and we'll be going into the studio at Blueprint Studios in Manchester to record our single in the next couple of weeks. The studio is amazing, and bands like Elbow and The Doves have recorded there.

What kind of music do you listen to?

AE: Anything that's good really. I fall in and out of love with music very quickly. Lately I have been listening to heavy rock, for example The Distillers.

SA: I have a very wide ranging taste, that depends on what I'm feeling at the time. I like heavy, catchy rock, preferably with a lot of vocal melodies, but I'll listen to anything. I listen to a lot of new music as well, which I find on internet blogs.

SJ: I listen to Ben Folds a lot, but I also really like Postal Service, Interpol, Imogen Heap and She Wants Revenge. Anything that's a little different.
