TOUTED as 2009’s ‘next big thing’, White Lies’ music is firmly rooted in the epic ‘80s sounds of Echo & The Bunnymen and Joy Division.
Harry McVeigh’s Julian Cope–esque baritone soars above gloomy guitars and the chorus “Let’s grow old together, And die at the same time” is instantly memorable.
Whether the band will fulfill the expectations placed upon them remains to be seen, but with songs this accessible they look capable of treading the same path as Editors by bringing dark indie pop to the masses.
