OUR Love To Admire is archetypal Interpol.
Cultivating a macabre veracity, as is their uniform way, the New Yorker's third album is pieced together as a whole, rather than the mere set of over produced tracks we so often hear from indie wannabe's'.
No standout tracks but singles that grow all over you, especially 'The Heinrich Maneuver', while the sombre opener 'Pioneer Falls' mutates into a poignant yet pleasing epic on each listen.
To keep expecting the inevitable lull to creep in is the foil Interpol rely on. To ponder the vocals of Paul Banks to be dreary is his sick joke. Even to pine for a more modern, perhaps Muse-like guitar sound, is the paradox that confuses the listener.
Forlorn, love lost lyrics bring about another thinking man's creation. If you want uplifting then go to a discotheque, divergently, immerse yourself in the futility of it all.
