A SALE playwright has written a new dark comedy called The Value of Nothing. It will be presented by the Laid Bare Theatre Company at Sale Waterside Arts on Thursday, October 19.

It expresses what it is like to be poor in 21st century Britain exploring issues such as unemployment, the Benefits system and welfare in the UK. The conclusions were reached after conducting 20 community based workshops with young unemployed people from Bolton.

There will be filmed recreations of these encounters plus stories from young people living on benefits.

Recent news reports claim that welfare reforms have increased homelessness in the UK by 135%.

Writer, Kim Wiltshire’s play is about a man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Kim is passionate about using theatre as a forum for debate.

The director is award winning Joyce Branagh, the sister of Sir Kenneth Branagh.

Ethan Holmes will play the central role of Vince Fine.

There will be lots of audience interaction.

The play will also be presented at the Trades Union Congress North West Equality Conference at the Mechanics Institute on Saturday, October 21.
