TRAFFORD College art students are showcasing their talent this month at Altrincham's AIR Gallery with a display of sculptures and drawings in an exhibition titled ‘Walk the Line’.

The show coincides with the annual Big Draw event and continues the drawing festival's theme of ‘Living Lines’ by allowing students to take drawings beyond the realms of the sketch.

Each piece in the show has been created during a one-day workshop led by professional artist Alan Baker, who has taken the simple concept of drawing and pushed the boundaries of a traditional sketch.

Alan generated the idea for the workshop and exhibition based on a series of techniques from his own practice.

He said: “Drawing is an often overlooked form of art but drawing can be so much more than just pencil on paper. I want to encourage students to think differently about drawing beyond the realms of the pencil and to consider the relationship between drawing and other forms of art, such as sculpture.”

The activity took place on October 10 with 20 students taking part from Foundation and second year courses at Trafford College. Students were encouraged to create a 3D installation, a series of drawing challenges and a final sculpture for the show.

Now on its third exhibition, director of AIR, Rebecca Wild, said; “AIR Gallery are really pleased to welcome Trafford College to our gallery this month. We love to support emerging talent in our local area and we’re really excited by the work the students have produced.

"We’re also proud to bring an element of the global Big Draw festival to our small town and put Altrincham on the map.”
