STRETFORD Brass Band has, appropriately, named its next concert at Sevenways Methodist Church, Barton Road, Stretford on Saturday, April 22 at 7.30, Home Sweet Home.

It is because, after practising in Sale for 30 years, Sevenways church has given them rehearsal space – so they are home in Stretford.

The programme will include popular numbers such as a Glen Miller medley, the Thunder and Lightening Polka, Bohemian Rhapsody and the Radetsky March.

The concert will be conducted by new Musical Director, Simon Robertshaw, a student of conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music.

After a successful career as a professional violinist, Simon has set up a music business – www.srmusic.co.uk.

In 2009, he worked as a cameraman with BBC Northwest Tonight.

New to brass, he said: “My introduction to brass banding through Stretford Band has been a wonderful experience and a steep learning curve.”

Among the guests at the concert will be their President, Kate Green, MP, who attends regularly.

* Tickets, priced £6.00 adults, £2.00 children from 0161 865 9622 or via the band directly.
