A SALE student is putting on a show to boost a charity and to help her friend.

Lucy O’Pray, 17, from Sale, has been friends with Catherine Lee for six years since both of them started at Altrincham College of Arts.

She knows the family well and was horrified when she discovered that Catherine’s mum, Ruth, was suffering from a brain tumour.

“I didn’t know what to say or do. I hugged Catherine when I heard the news.”

Ruth, who has been studying musical theatre at Pendleton Sixth Form Centre, for six months, decided to put on a show, appropriately called Beat the Brain, in aid of the Brain Tumour Research Charity.

She got together with 16 of her fellow students and they’re been practising dancing, and singing at rehearsals since January.

“I have put the whole thing together and am directing it,” said Lucy.

“Some are singing pop songs but most of the programme will be songs from the shows.”

Two tutors from the college will accompany them on two pianos.

The cast would like to raise funds via a jumbo raffle. Lucy says anyone willing to donate prizes should telephone 07415 480 626.

* The show will take place on Thursday, April 27, at Pendleton Sixth Form Centre, Dronfield Road.Salford, M6 7FR at 7 pm. Tickets, priced £5, can be purchased from the above number or, better still, from justgiving.com/fundraising/beatthebrain where donations can be made, too.
