SALE Chamber Orchestra are determined that children should enjoy their concerts as much as their parents.

To that end they have created Minim mouse, a character they will love.

Richard Howarth, their conductor said “A Minim knitting factory has been set up by my wife Luci.

“Children are invited to adopt a Minim. In return for a donation, they will receive an adoption certificate and instructions to feed their Minim with live music.”

Now, friend of the Howarths and professional story teller, Jacqui Blore, has written the first tale in a series of Tales about Minim Mouse - Minim Finds a French Horn.

Another friend, amateur artist, Mar Van de Kaa, agreed to illustrate it.

The book will be available at the orchestra’s next concert at the Avenue Methodist Church on April 1 at 7.30pm. Profits will go towards concerts just for children.

The spring concert will feature violinist Iona Brown and cellist, Nick Byrne who will perform Brahms Double Concerto for Violin and Cello. The programme also includes Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture and Schubert’s Tragic Symphony No 4.

“We hope some children will come,” said Richard. “Younger ones can go home after the interval.

“We reserve a front row for under 16s. They can come in free if they bring a fee paying adult.”
