CREATIVE Industries Trafford (CIT) is pleased to present its fourth Northern Lights Writers’ Conference, supported by Trafford Council and co-promoted with Manchester Literature Festival and Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook.

This year’s professional development day for emerging and established writers takes place on Saturday, March 18, 10am-5pm, at Waterside Arts Centre in Sale, and includes talks, workshops, panel discussions, networking opportunities and book signings with award-winning writers and publishing professionals.

Creative Industries Trafford coordinator, Richard Evans, said: “CIT is delighted to work with Manchester Literature Festival and Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook again, and we look forward to welcoming a fantastic range of speakers to Waterside.

"For our fourth Northern Lights Writers’ Conference, we will be exploring literary fiction and genre writing, as well as hearing from industry experts about all aspects of publishing.”

Described by Salt Publishing’s Chris Hamilton-Emery as 'a brilliant writers’ conference' and by Adrian Slatcher on the Manchester Literature Festival blog as 'a winning formula', Northern Lights has so far welcomed guest speakers AL Kennedy, Will Self and Louise Doughty, author of Apple Tree Yard, recently adapted for the BBC. This year, the keynote speech will be delivered by Sarah Dunant, award-winning writer of eight novels, two screenplays and numerous national newspaper reviews.

Authors Cath Staincliffe, Alex Wheatle and Liz Williams will be sharing advice for emerging and mid-career writers, while David Gaffney will be delivering a flash fiction writing workshop and launching CIT’s latest flash fiction competition. The conference is also pleased to be welcoming literary agents Piers Blofeld and John Jarrold, editor Julie Crisp and Alysoun Owen from Writers & Artists Yearbook.

Tickets cost £30 (£25 concessions) and can be booked by calling the Waterside box office on 0161 912 5616 or by emailing info@creativeindustriestrafford.org.
