LOVE folk music? Then don’t miss Peter Knight’s Gigspanner at Sale Waterside.

There aren’t many fiddle players who could be mentioned in the same breath as Peter Knight.

Peter Knight has dominated the British folk scene for almost five decades, most notably with folk-rock pioneers Steeleye Span. He has recently been awarded Instrumentalist of the Year 2016 by Folking.com as well as Musician of the Year 2016 from Fatea Magazine.

Since his departure from Steeleye Span at the end of 2013, Peter Knight turned his full attention to his trio Gigspanner.

Peter is joined by Roger Flack on guitar and Sacha Trochet on percussion.

Unhindered by the limits of technical ability, they take self-penned pieces along with music rooted in the British Isles and with the flick of a bow, a finely chosen chord or slip of a beat, produce richly atmospheric arrangements “with notes seemingly plucked from the stars and rhythms from the equator”.

Folk Radio UK said: "Gigspanner has taken traditional tunes as a starting point and rearranged, orchestrated and improvised around them to create fascinating new works. Their increasingly impressive sound is like no other."

Maverick Magazine added: "With his trio, Peter Knight breaks new ground and is second to absolutely nobody...ground-breaking, engaging, frequently astonishing, Gigspanner deliver a quite simply superb set."

Gigspanner’s show will take place at Sale Waterside, Waterside Plaza, Sale, on Friday February 24 at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £15 and are available from watersideartscentre.co.uk. For more information, call 0161 912 5616 or email watersideartscentre@trafford.gov.uk.
