A SHORT film shot in Wythenshawe and Greenfield is to receive its Manchester premiere at the

Odeon Printworks.

'A Father's Day', directed by Mat Johns and produced by Sale-based Chris Lane, has been officially for Manchester's Grimmfest, one of the top genre film festivals in the world.

The film, shot locally over four days, follows the story of a father and daughter, both now zombies, as they rekindle their relationship in a post apocalyptic world.

Starring Garth Maunders and Hazel Gibson, legendary make-up artist Shaune Harrison (Harry Potter, Star Wars) led the special effects make-up team on the project.

Although a newcomer to the festival circuit 'A Father's Day' has already been selected to be screened at eight film festivals and last month premiered at a sold out screening as part of the Encounters International Film Festival in Bristol, an OSCAR and BAFTA qualifying festival.

Chris, the film's producer, said: "It's exciting to see A Father's Day doing so well on the festival circuit. Leapling Films have several feature films in development and the success of the short film at festivals such as Grimmfest will only help to raise both awareness and funding for future projects."

Mat, writer and director of 'A Father's Day', said: 'It's fantastic to be screening the film in our home town on the same day that the film premieres in the USA at the Sacremento Horror Film Festival in California.

"The residents of Greenfield and Wythenshawe were very accommodating and I hope some of them will be able to make it down to the screening to see the results!'.

A Father's Day will be screened alongside Bo Mikkelsen's Danish zombie feature, 'What We Become' on Friday, October 7 at 4pm and will be followed by a Q&A with the cast and crew.

Strictly over 18s only. Tickets can be purchased from www.grimmfest.com.
