Byrom Street in Hale has been named as the most romantic place to live after topping a Valentine’s Day poll of the most romantic streets in the area.

The street – one of the famous ‘B Streets’ – came out on top, closely followed by its well-known neighbours, Brown Street, Bold Street and Bath Street. The quartet are widely regarded as the most popular streets in Hale for first-time buyers and young couples.

After nearly 23 years of selling houses, Peter Waterson at Hale-based Watersons Independent Estate Agent has seen more proposals, weddings and babies being born on Byrom Street compared to any other street in the area.

In fact, Peter – the founder and managing director of Watersons – actually met his wife Claire 17 years ago at a party on Byrom Street. He commented: “The ‘B Streets’ have always been extremely popular with single people and young couples moving in to the area; if you’re from the area then you’ll probably live on the ‘B Streets’ at some point or at least spend the night there after a party!

“In one instance, I actually sold two houses next-door-but-one to each other on Byrom Street so the vendors could move in together. Ed and Hazel Macnamara still live in Hale and now have three kids – a daughter aged three and one-year-old twin boys. They’re perfect proof that the ‘B Streets’ are the most loved-up streets in the area!”

He added: “Their perfect location close to bars, shops and public transport makes them highly desirable for couples looking to settle down – it’s hardly surprising that Byrom has topped the poll, with Brown, Bold and Bath hot-on-their-heels.”

Ed Macnamara, who moved to Byrom Street in 1999, added: “It doesn’t matter who you speak to in the area, everyone seems to know someone who’s either lived or met their partner on one of the ‘B Streets’. A lot of young couples opt for smaller homes that have attractive traditional features while not breaking the bank. In that sense, Byrom Street ticks all the right boxes as the perfect place for a couple to start their life together.”
