ST Ambrose College young academics were walking tall after matching last year's record A-level results in another stella year.

Once again 71.3 per cent of all grades were at A* to B, a figure that is expected to rise after the standard revaluation, to make this cohort the school's best ever.

Joe Wynn, 18, from Sale, who got two A*s and an A grade and will read Biology at Hertford College Oxford.

Michael Humphreys, 18, from Stretford, who got three A*s and will read Physics at Durham.

George Fountain, 18, from Cheadle, who got an A*, two As and a B and will read Classics at Oriel College, Oxford.

Simon Rich, 18, from Sale, who got an A* and three A grades and will read History at Newcastle.

Charles Leach, 18, from Hale, who got two A*s and an A and will read Biomedical Science at Newcastle.

Daniel Maskey, 18, from Sale, who got three A grades and wants a career in aviation.

Michael Carr, 18, from Appleton, who got three A grades and will read General Engineering at Durham.

While Will Peilober, 18, from Sale got an A* and two A grades and will read History and Philosophy at Leeds.

St Ambrose College headmaster, Michael Thompson, said: “St Ambrose College continues to go from strength to strength with our young men raising the bar for future generations.

"Even more importantly, as well as being talented academic, these are fine young men who have made a significant contribution to the community outside of the classroom.”
