A GROUP of budding entrepreneurs who champion Greater Manchester will now be representing the region at a national competition after winning over judges with their business acumen.

Altrincham Grammar for Boys students came out on top at the Young Enterprise Greater Manchester Regional Finals on May 4, scooping the overall Company of the Year award, as well as the Best Company Report.

Young Enterprise is a one-year programme, where thousands of students nationwide set up and run their own business.

The Altrincham students, who are also juggling A-Level exams, have set up urbanMCR. They photographed, designed, wrote and self-published a 100-page book, Manchester Discovered, a guide to the best places to visit on a day out in the city.

The book is available on the company’s dedicated website urbanmcr.com and the group hope to get it on bookshelves across Manchester and nationwide. A Manchester app is also in development.

Young Lu, managing director of urbanMCR, said: “Young Enterprise is a fantastic opportunity and we are all very proud of what we have managed to achieve over the past few months. It has given us a priceless insight into the real-world of business and we have all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”

After successfully representing Trafford, urbanMCR will now represent Greater Manchester in the North West final in June, in the hope they will secure a place in the National Finals in London.
