THE Imperial War Museum in Trafford is holding a series of traditional family activity days throughout the summer holidays, to mark the centenary of the First World War.

Games and activities are inspired by children’s past times from 100 years ago, with everything from decorating your own wooden yoyo or spinning top to playing hopscotch on a wartime street.

Children can also pick out their own ‘ration packs’ in the museum’s cafe - just five items - although it’s doubtful whether hula hoop crisps and Babybel cheese portions were around 100 years ago!

Other activities include creating your own colourful peg doll character – from a First World War soldier or nurse to a doll decked out in 1914 fashion – designing a jigsaw and creative scrap booking workshops.

Activities and entry to the museum is free, although car parking costs £4 for up to three hours.
