RACHEL Swallow, an Altrincham-based archaeology scholar and lecturer from the University of Chester received a national accolade for her research work into Aldford Castle in Cheshire.
A member of the university's department of history and archaeology, she was named the runner up in the long article category of the British Association for Local History Awards for her article Landscape of Power: Aldford Castle, Cheshire. It was published in the Cheshire History Journal.
With around 1,000 journals being reviewed for this year’s awards, Rachel’s work was selected as one of a shortlist of only five articles published in local history journals from across Great Britain.
Rachel said: “The multidisciplinary approach I take to research is like playing detective – by collecting together all the available pieces of the evidence about both the medieval castle and its landscape, a much more complete picture about Aldford Castle emerges."
