I HEARTILY endorse W A Corkill's letter about traffic calming measures, published in SAM last week. But the writer does not go far enough in condemning the terrible waste of money in introducing these schemes, all apparently without consulation with residents and taxpayers.

Other authorities seem to be following a similar pattern so it appears that these types of schemes must stem from the Government. But shouldn't something be done about bad road surfaces and poorly maintained pavements first. If it wasn't so serious it would be laughable.
